HERO

HERO

“To love is to sacrifice”, a perfect tagline for all the OFWs around the globe.
Many people choose to go to other countries to earn money, broaden their skills and bring out their talents. Why? It is an undeniable fact that the salaries from the other countries are much higher than the salaries here in the Philippines. And the salaries that they earn are not only for themselves but also for their families.
All of us want to give our family members a good future. Many OFWs sacrifice themselves to be away from their families just to give their children a good education for a better future. Some of them need money to cure a disease or sickness of a family member. Sometimes, it is to provide their families a better living, to provide shelter and food.
The government should allow more Filipinos to work abroad for they represent our country, the Philippines, in all parts of the globe. But of course, we cannot avoid the discrimination of our race in the other countries for we are Asians. In connection to that, I believe that OFWs need support and protection from our government.

The final decision still lies on our government. But I believe that our OFWs are truly the heroes of our generation.

Romeo and Juliet: Thanks to the Expiration Date

Romeo and Juliet: Thanks to the Expiration Date

If I were given a chance to change the ending of Romeo and Juliet, it would be like this:

After exiting the house of the Apothecary, Romeo continued on his journey to Verona. Meanwhile, in the Capulet family tomb, Juliet’s poison wore off. Juliet panicked and decided to just sleep like nothing happened and gave her best to stay still. Juliet heard the cries of Paris and decided to let him know that she is alive. Then, Paris told Juliet how much he love her and they need to get married as soon as possible. Juliet refused Paris, she explained how much she loves Romeo and she is willing to do anything just to be with Romeo. Paris saw the love in Juliet’s eyes as she told her love to Romeo, at that moment, he decided to let go. Juliet decided to get some sleep in the tomb as she was very tired.
As Romeo entered the Capulet tomb, he is very much confused for there are no guards around. He almost cried in joy and sorrow when he saw his beloved Juliet in the tomb, looking beautiful as ever. He suddenly remembered the poison that the Apothecary gave him, he rummaged his pocket and when he will drink it, he saw the expiration date. He saw that the poison is expired a year ago already; he got mad and threw the bottle of poison. Juliet got startled at the sound of the breaking glass; she suddenly got up the tomb and saw her beloved Romeo.
When their eyes met, they felt a spark going through their entire bodies. Romeo didn’t waste the chance to hug and kiss Juliet. They went out of the tomb while holding hands and their families saw happiness in their eyes as they explained what really happened all these times. Both families ended their feud to let the couple have their everlasting love, forever.

TEACH ME MORE, TEACHER

Teach me more, Teacher

Even as a child up until now, I have always looked up to teachers. One of my inspirations in my life is a teacher. I am always thankful to them because other jobs would be impossible without a teacher teaching everyone regarding that field.
As a student, I want to thank every teacher for teaching me everything that I know today. I would never be the Rain today without the help of all my previous and present teachers.
I just wanted to say something to them, "Teach me more, Teacher."

If I would be given a chance to meet and talk with a historical person, it would be Andres Bonifacio. It is because I wanted to ask him all about his advocacy in founding the Katipunan and how really hard life is when the Spaniards came to the Philippines.

Me: Hello everyone! I’ am Rain Anne S. Mojica and I will have an interview with our very own Mr. Andres Bonifacio. He is a Filipino revolutionary and the founder of the Katipunan.

Mr. Bonifacio: Thank you, Rain. I’ am very much pleased to be here with everyone today.

Me: Thank you too, Mr. Bonifacio for accepting my interview request. Now, let’s start, shall we? First, what is your advocacy in founding the Katipunan?

Mr. Bonifacio: My advocacy in founding the Katipunan is to seek independence from Spain through armed revolt. I have also believed from the beginning that there is hope and that is why my pseudonym is “May Pag-asa”

Me: That was quite a deep answer Mr. Bonifacio. Now, will you tell us how hard life is when the Spaniards came to our country?

Mr. Bonifacio: It was very hard. But it really got messed up when they started to discover about the Katipunan. Many people were killed, imprisoned and starved. During those times, we lack armed forces. But fortunately, in the end, we are able to achieve independence.

Me: That’s true. But unfortunately, we have to end the interview now. Thank you very much, Mr. Bonifacio for sharing those important details to us.

Mr. Bonifacio: You are very welcome. Goodbye everyone!

Me: Goodbye!

A Book Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

Summary

Eleven years ago, all the wizards and witches of the wizarding world celebrated. It is all because the Dark Lord or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was defeated. In short, Voldemort (the most evil wizard) have killed the parents of Harry Potter, but he cannot kill baby Harry Potter. During that night, Harry Potter became a hero, “The Boy Who Lived”.

Because of the death of his parents, Little Harry became an orphan. Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts, Professor McGonagall, the headmistress of Hogwarts, and Hagrid, the groundskeeper at Hogwarts, sent him to the house of the Dursleys, the Muggle (non – magic folks) extended family of Harry.

In the present day, a ten – year – old Harry lives in a cupboard under the stairs. He lives there with his mean aunt and uncle and their son Dudley. During Dudley’s birthday, they went to a zoo, there he encounters a snake. And surprisingly, he was able to talk to it and something happened that the snake escaped from its cage, replaced by Dudley inside it.
After the trip to the zoo, Harry started receiving mysterious letters. Harry’s uncle, Mr. Dursley, found out that it is from a wizarding school and tries to keep the letters away from Harry. But that night before Harry’s eleventh birthday, the letters started coming rapidly that Mr. Dursley decided to take the whole family to a deserted island.

Despite of all of that, Hagrid showed up on Harry’s birthday to deliver the letter and to let Harry know that he is a wizard and have been admitted to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The next day, Hagrid took Harry to Diagon Alley where he bought many of the school requirements, there he also meets Malfoy and Professor Quirrell, the Defense Against Dark Arts teacher. He also went to Gringgots, the wizards’ and witches’ bank with Hagrid as he picked up the money that his parents left him and as Hagrid picked up something that is said to be a secret.

Before the start of the school year, Harry has to take a train from platform nine and three-quarters. The Weasley family helped Harry to find his way to the platform and made friends with one of the sons, Ron. During the trip, Harry also meets other first-year students like Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom.

During their arrival at Hogwarts, the first years are sorted by the Sorting Hat into one of the four houses, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and the Ravenclaw. Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville all got sorted in Gryffindor and Malfoy got sorted in Slytherin. Out of all the school teachers, Harry hates the Potions Master most, Professor Snape.

Harry discovered that there was an attempted robbery in the Gringgots but nothing was taken. He also thought that the robbers where after the thing that Hagrid picked up. When they asked Hagrid about it, he accidentally slipped that it has something to do with someone named Nicolas Flamel.

Malfoy, as a bully, teases Neville during their first broom-flying lesson. Harry stood up for Neville despite the fact that he is a beginner in flying, but discovers later that he’s a natural in flying. Even though he broke the rules by flying unsupervised, Professor McGonagall rewarded him a position in the Gryffindor Quidditch Team as the Seeker.

Later, Malfoy challenged Harry to a wizard duel at midnight. Hermione and Rom accompanied Harry, but Malfoy didn’t turned up. As the three of them tries to get back to the dorm, they accidentally went in to a forbidden room in Hogwarts where they encountered a three-headed dog. Luckily, they escaped in the last minute.

Hermione and Ron got into a fight, but made up when they saved her from the troll, reviving the three’s friendship.

During the first Quidditch match, the Golden Trio suspects that Snape is the one who wants to steal the package from Gringgots. During the game, Harry’s broom acts weird and looks like it has been hexed. Hermione and Ron noticed that it maybe Snape that is doing hexes to Harry so they saved him from Snape.

During Christmas, Harry received an invisibility cloak that once belonged to his dad. He used it one night to look around the castle and accidentally discovered the Mirror of Erised. Dumbledore catches Harry looking at it and explains that the mirror shows you your heart’s desire.

After the winter break, the Golden Trio figured out who is Nicolas Flamel, he is an alchemist and the only person in the world to have the Sorcerer’s Stone, which is believed to provide immortality. They think that the Stone is hidden in the room guarded by the three-headed dog.

Hagrid adopts a dragon, which is illegal. The Golden Trio convince him that it is not good to raise a dragon and has to find a way to smuggle it out. Due to some circumstances with Malfoy involved, Gryffindor moves to the last place in the house cup.

Harry, Hermione, Neville and Malfoy had a detention with Hagrid in the forest at night. They are trying to figure out what’s killing the unicorn and drinking their blood. Because of that, they realize that Voldemort is the one who is killing the unicorns and he is going to return.

After the exams, the Golden Trio talked with Hagrid and discovers that he said too much about the Sorcerer’s Stone to the stranger who gave him the dragon. They suspect that it is Snape. Because of that, they attempted to get past the three-headed dog and to meet with series of challenges.

The last challenge is faced by Harry alone. In that, he runs into Professor Quirrell and not Snape. That time, Quirrell reveals that Voldemort is living in him. He made Harry to use the Mirror of the Erised and get the Sorcerer’s Stone. Harry lied about it and when Voldemort realizes it, he touched Harry Potter yet he burns. Harry killed him by burning him. After that, Harry blacks out.

Harry woke up in the infirmary with Dumbledore. Dumbledore explained to Harry that he defeated Voldemort because of the protection of his mother’s love. He also said the Sorcerer’s Stone have also been destroyed.

At the end-of-the-year banquet, Dumbledore special mentions Harry, Hermione and Neville for the part that they participated in defeating Quirrell. He rewards them by giving Gryffindor lots of points, resulting for the Gryffindor to win the house cup. At last, they part ways at the train station, looking forward for the next school year.

The Truly Great

All the people included in this video are all precious to me. I could not think of other people who can replace their own parts in my life. I will never be the Rain today without them. I love you.

The Truly Great

I think continually of those who were truly great.
Who, from the womb, remembered the soul’s history
Through corridors of light, where the hours are suns,
Endless and singing. Whose lovely ambition
Was that their lips, still touched with fire,
Should tell of the Spirit, clothed from head to foot in song.
And who hoarded from the Spring branches
The desires falling across their bodies like blossoms.

What is precious, is never to forget
The essential delight of the blood drawn from ageless springs
Breaking through rocks in worlds before our earth.
Never to deny its pleasure in the morning simple light
Nor its grave evening demand for love.
Never to allow gradually the traffic to smother
With noise and fog, the flowering of the spirit.

Near the snow, near the sun, in the highest fields,
See how these names are fêted by the waving grass
And by the streamers of white cloud
And whispers of wind in the listening sky.
The names of those who in their lives fought for life,
Who wore at their hearts the fire’s centre.
Born of the sun, they travelled a short while toward the sun
And left the vivid air signed with their honour.

NO LIMITS

NO LIMITS

Love life and be happy. That way you will not let anything get into you and life’s way. You may fall down but that means that you can get up again and start your life as a better individual.
As seen is the video, Nicholas James Vujicic, a man with no legs and no arms have been living his life to its fullest. He is independent to others and likes to preach other people despite of the challenges that he himself is facing.
According to him, “No legs, no arms, no worries.” We are all equal. We all have purpose in life. We have choices. We have NO LIMITS.

Happy Virus

Happy Virus

Let’s spread happiness, they say. For this reason, I want to be a person that can be a help to spread happiness. I want to be a help to all those people who are sad and not content of what they are experiencing right now. To begin with, I really want to become a teacher and a social worker, with the aid of these jobs; I can bring happiness and joy to other people.
First, as a teacher, I can nurture the mindset of those children who think that they cannot study because of the poverty that they are experiencing. Also, I think that I can also bring joy Moreover, I, as a teacher will also be happy because of all the achievements that my students made with the help of me and as their second mother.
to those parents who can personally see their children going up the stage and having medals on their necks as a fruit of their hard work.

Second, as a social worker, I believe that I can encounter many people who are unsatisfied of their lives. There are also people who are embarrassed of themselves, people who hurt themselves and finally, people who despise themselves.  I want to help these people by improving their self esteem and that God made everyone of us equal, that we should not envy other people and that we should not hate ourselves as it is the temple of God. I want them to be happy not only because they have overcome the hurdles that they are overcoming but because they have the strength of carrying on their lives.
Being happy is not about smiling, it is about APPRECIATING and LOVING. I want to be known as a person who can infect other people in being happy. That is my legacy.

Thank God She’s My Mother

Thank God She’s My Mother

Mother. Mom. Mama. Mommy or Nanay.

Whatever you call her, she will be the person that will unconditionally love you.  She may be not a superhero but she will be the first one to know when you’re hurt. She may be not be the best cook around but whatever she cooks will always be the best. She may be not be perfect but she is the best.

I am proud to say that my mother is Analinda Mojica y Solis. She exists in this planet since October 19, 1974, yes I know that she is already old, however, she still acts like a teenager. Also, it is a fact that she is a motor mouth. She currently owns a computer shop under our surname, Mojix Internet Cafe. Even when it is a hot potato she is willing to work and finish the assigned task to her. She is very responsible.

Sometimes, we fight each other and will not pay attention to one another but it will only last for days. It is because we can’t stand seeing one another sad. I even remember when once I am still an ankle – biter, there was this time that I disappointed her and she didn’t pay attention to me for a day and I cried, after that it was back to normal, like a magic.

Many things she stood me back up when I fell down. When I am very depressed and thought of dropping out in CavSci, she told me that I can do it. And because of that, guess what? I did it.

I always think that what if she isn't the one who molded me as a person who is writing this right now. What kind of person will I become? One thing that I know is that I will never be the person who is optimistic and this person who loves her mother more than anything else.

I am so thankful that she is my mother. The best thing that ever happened to me is she being my mother.

Evolve like a Pokemon

High School Looks So Much Cooler in TV

I saw this thing called high school on television
I heard that they’re using ballpens
Scared would be an understatement
‘Cause ballpens cannot be erased by an eraser

Now that I am a high schooler that’s not my only problem
Research is coming up;
I think Quadratic Equations are haunting me at night, and
I start hearing different Spanish phrases before sleeping

Everything started at CavSci
The school of pioneers and the best
But even I don’t know how I passed
But more importantly, this is where I will again, begin another quest.

Seventh Grade
Everyone is acting shy
Everything seems alien
And the lessons are all bombs and traps

We are often compared little buds blossoming
And I can’t disagree more
I can’t even grow, how would I blossom?
But for now, I believe that I am still a seed planning to grow

Eighth Grade
Pressure cooker
All because I already belong to the Nitrogen Class
And guess what?
I don’t know how and why I got there

Everyone is close to each other
And mind you, noisy
In this school year,
You don’t need to be smart, be clever

Ninth Grade
Second to the last
Just a little more pushing and it will come to an end
Before ending we are expecting for new and exciting things

Trigonometry and Research are one of those exciting things
Those things can make you cry due to excitement
But before that, things are going fine now
Finding new things to do and kill time before studying

Even though high school is so much cooler than tv,
There is a thing that tv cannot show, and that is:
High School up until now taught me more life lessons
Than true education.

JUNIORRRRRR

Two Down, Two to Go

Finally! Grade 9, here I go! After two years of waiting, I, Rain Anne S. Mojica, is finally Grade 9! Meaning to say, two years to go until I finish junior high!! Let's celebrate!

Next, let’s all be sad for we are going to say goodbye to our lovely vacation, unlimited internet access, eat-all-you-can everyday and laptop. L

They say, start the school year right. And I think I started it right. New classmates? New friends. New subjects? New topics to review. New teachers? New
people to guide us. Changes may have happened but adjustments are just the answers.

But honestly, the first week of being a junior is the toughest first week I ever experienced. First day of school and yet I have 7 assignments listed down on my homeroom notebook. I was like, shocked.

Another thing about the first day of school, flag ceremony. Oh Gosh, I thought that I was going to have heat stroke at that time. We sweated like pigs in the middle of the basketball court when we started stretching. Well, surprisingly no one fainted, or should I say no one’s life span decreased.

And the Diagnostic Test surely is a bomb. Specially Spanish, I really can’t write anything. A complete black out. For me, the easiest Diagnostic Test is in Math, because some are from our Grade 8 lessons that just evolved.

So far, so good. That’s what I can say for my first week of being a junior. Everything so far is going well and fun. And I can say, I expect more challenges that I can overcome in the future. As Ma’am Mae said, “The ball’s rolling on Monday.” So let’s bring balls on Monday and start rollin’.
